Spoilers: This article covers the late-antique experiments in BRZRKR: The Lost Book of B. #1.

Zosimus's life-extension machine is the mechanical part of his attempt to approach the condition represented by B. It operates within a larger alchemical environment of vessels, heat, substances, inscriptions, and B-derived material rather than as an independent immortality device.

Purpose

Zosimus studies transformation because B's survival challenges ordinary limits on the body. The machine gives that inquiry a physical structure. Material can be held, altered, circulated, or exposed to controlled conditions while the experimenter observes the result.

The operation's most important result is not a proven cure for aging. It is Lugalṭur, a new life connected to B but possessing an identity of his own. That outcome changes the measure of success. A device built to extend or reproduce life creates obligations toward the person produced through it.

Relationship to the apparatus

The publication does not sharply separate one named life-extension machine from every other piece of Zosimus's equipment. The title identifies the machinery associated with his central goal, while the distillation apparatus describes the broader working system around it.

No complete operating sequence, power source, or repeatable formula is given. It is also unclear how much of the result depends on the machine, the alchemical substances, the B-derived material, or care during Lugalṭur's development.

Limits and significance

The machine should not be described as granting ordinary humans permanent immortality. Its confirmed importance is narrative: it turns the wish to defeat death into a material experiment and helps create a being whom the experimenters cannot ethically reduce to an outcome.

Like Protocol X and the Source-powered hypercomputer, Zosimus's machinery shows that access is not ownership. A device can reach an extraordinary phenomenon without giving its operator the right to command the life that follows.
