Spoilers: This article covers Zosimus's work in BRZRKR: The Lost Book of B. #1.
The alchemical distillation apparatus is the collection of vessels, heat sources, channels, and working surfaces used in Zosimus's effort to transform material connected to B. It represents an attempt to make the mystery of B's survival measurable through the technical language available to the historical setting.
Function in the laboratory
Distillation separates and recombines substances through controlled stages. In Zosimus's operation, that practical logic is joined to prima materia, Azoth, the Water of Life, and B-derived material. The equipment creates an appearance of order: vessels can be sealed, heat can be regulated, and changes can be observed.
That order does not give the experimenters complete control. The result becomes Lugalṭur, a developing being whose needs exceed the apparatus's ability to measure success. The machinery can change material without deciding the rights of the person who emerges.
What is confirmed
The publication depicts an alchemical environment of containers, liquid, heat, inscriptions, and machinery. It does not provide construction plans, a complete ingredient list, or a repeatable real-world procedure. The apparatus is best understood as a system rather than as one named machine.
Its relationship to B's cosmic origin also remains partial. B's material makes the experiment extraordinary, but the story does not establish that distillation alone reproduces the Source or B's complete regenerative condition.
Significance
The apparatus connects ancient ritual language to the modern program's machines. Both systems promise that careful technique can turn a person's body into transferable knowledge. Both produce consequences that force the experimenters to confront identity, consent, and responsibility.
