The Southwest refuge attack is the armed assault on B, Diana and their family in the concluding issue of the original BRZRKR series. It follows their departure from the Virginia safehouse and occurs after the birth of their twins. Helicopters and armed personnel arrive at the remote refuge, forcing B to fight despite having become mortal. The setting matters because the story's central bargain has been transformed. B is no longer only a seemingly indestructible government asset, and his relationship with Diana has become a family life he can lose. The violence leads to his mortal wounding. Keever appears at the end and acknowledges that B is not going to survive the injury, before offering a final farewell. The assault should not be reported as an attack on the Virginia safehouse, where Keever had previously allowed B and Diana to leave. The ultimate epilogue complicates a permanent-death interpretation by depicting B reforming under several suns. The refuge attack remains a genuine mortal crisis, but it is not the last image of B in the comic.
